The USB specification defines a standard connector, socket, and cable, which all USB devices can use. This single standard eliminates the confusion caused by the current mixture of connector and cable types required for hardware devices. The USB hub uses a type A connector, and the device uses a type B connector.
The installation of a USB device is relatively easy. Make sure your computer is turned off (just kidding!) Just plug the device into the computerÆs USB port and youÆre ready to go! USB ports are usually located on the back of your computer.
Locate the USB ports on your computer. Most new systems contain 2 USB ports.
Connect the cable to the USB port on the computer. It will only fit one way, do not force it.
When you connect the device to the USB port, in this case a USB mouse, Windows 98 will automatically set the appropriate driver and youÆre ready to go. In some cases, you may be prompted to insert a driver disk supplied by the manufacturer. After this initial setup, whenever that component is connected, it will be recognized and you can use it without rebooting.
